Kate Murray About

Kate Murray was born and raised in a south suburb of Chicago, Illinois. She moved to Scotland to study English Literature at the University of St Andrews, where she first discovered her love of writing. That spark led her to complete an MSc in Creative Writing at the University of Edinburgh.

After graduating, Kate spent fifteen years working in advertising agencies across Scotland and England as an account handler, managing broadcast campaigns for major brands. Following the birth of her second child, she, her husband, their two children, and the family dog moved to the south-coast town of Poole, where Kate took time away from agency life to focus on family.

As her children grew, Kate rediscovered the golden nuggets of childhood - the mischief, imagination, and unfiltered honesty that inspired her to start writing again.

Her debut poetry collection, Out of Line, was written for both children and their parents - celebrating not just the wild, curious minds of kids, but the hilarious chaos and eyebrow-raising truths of parenthood, too. Inspired by the playful irreverence of Shel Silverstein and Roald Dahl, Out of Line invites families to laugh, question, and think a little differently together.

Kate continues to write stories that blend humour, heart, and a touch of chaos. Her next picture book, Dishwasher Dog, is currently in production and will launch in Spring 2026.

She lives in Poole with her husband, two children and two dogs.
